Pledge to Pray

Praying for people and the priesthood

A new online community dedicated to praying for young people, faith and vocational discernment in Australia has been initiated by the Catholic Vocations Office in the Melbourne Archdiocese.

Pledge To Pray aims to have 1,000 prayer pledges across Australia by December 2019, just in time for the Australian Catholic Youth Festival in Perth.

People can go online to submit their intention to pray for young people in Australia and for vocations to the priesthood and religious life.

“I see it as an essential way of involving the whole Church in the most important things that we can do for vocations—pray,” Fr David Cartwright, Vocations Director, told The Catholic Weekly.

“This is the first thing that Jesus asked us to do: ‘Pray to the Lord of the Harvest.’ Asking people to pledge a prayer helps them to feel they are actively engaging in the ministry of vocations, and praying for our young people and our Church at this time.

“Particularly in the lead up to ACYF in December, this initiative seeks to focus people in spiritual support of youth and help them spiritually to listen to the voice of the Lord.”
