Does your party support the ‘advancement of religion’ as a category for charitable and tax-free status?

The Australian Greens are broadly supportive of the recommendations of the Strengthening of Purpose: Australian Charities and Not for Profit Commission Legislation Review 2018 and would like to see progress in implementation of those recommendations.

The Greens are deeply concerned that some religious institutions named in the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse have not yet joined the National Redress Scheme and believe such institutions should have their charitable status suspended if they refuse to participate.

The Morrison Government supports the retention of ‘advancement of religion’ as a category for charitable and tax-free status in the Charities Act 2013.
