Wollongong Catholics have had their prayers answered this Advent with the release of Beloved, a diocesan app of reflections for the Christmas season.

Diocesan director of communications Daniel Hopper said the app was created in response to demand from parishioners.

“We already had a book and CD but parishioners had asked for an app,” he said.

“They said they would love to have the Advent program on their phone as they take the train into work.”

While production took longer than expected, Daniel said the communications team was thrilled with the finished product.

The Beloved app includes all texts and images from the diocesan Advent book, as well as audio narrations of reflections by the authors and music from Tracey Coombes Cry Out CD.

“I like the music integrated with the psalm,” Daniel said. “When you can see the words and listen to the music, that’s when the psalm comes alive.”

Early feedback from parishioners praised the general usability of the app.

The digital format also takes the diocese’s Advent materials to the world.

“The app opens us up to an international market,” Daniel said.

The project will be the template for a Lent 2016 app.

The Beloved app is available on iOS and Android for $4.49.
