15th Annual Vinnies CEO Sleepout

The 15th annual Vinnies CEO sleepout will be taking place on 18 June, as organisers decide to push forward with the event despite the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The sleepout, a one-night event scheduled over one of the longest and coldest nights of the year, will see hundreds of CEOs, business owners as well as community and government leaders sleep outdoors to support the many Australians who are experiencing homelessness and people at risk of homelessness.

In light of the unique challenges 2020 has delivered, participants of this year’s event will sleep in cars, backyards and on couches and join an interactive live stream event hosted by Television personality Dr Andrew Rochford, so participants can be involved without needing to gather.

The events founder Bernie Fehon said “[We are] unable to get together, but have certainly chosen to press on with the event because people who are homeless, they don’t have a choice to put their life on hold.

“And what it is doing is giving us the opportunity to emulate what the bulk of our homeless people are doing, and that is sleeping in spots that are fairly invisible.”

The CEO sleepout participants commit to raising money to help Vinnies provide essential services to the people who need them.

Vinnies prides itself on its determination to help break the cycle of homelessness by offering support services all over Australia. Money raised during the sleepout will help those services provide the much-needed support funding new and existing initiatives and allowing Vinnies to expand the reach of existing programs ensuring every Australian can access accommodation, meals, and emergency assistance when they need it.

Last year, the CEO Sleepout raised $7.9 million for vinnies and the organisation hopes to make an even bigger impact this year. Participants of this years event have already raised more than $1.1 million.
