Dominic and Frances Attard went back to where their married life began on Christmas Eve, celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary at the 5pm Mass at Sacred Heart Church in Darlinghurst.

Their two daughters and four grandchildren, and around 35 other family members and friends were there to witness the happy occasion which included the bestowing of a papal blessing on the couple, presented by parish priest, Fr Matthew Solomon.

The couple were married at the church on 24 December, 1955.

Dominic and Frances spent the first three years of their married life in Darlinghurst before moving to Daceyville where they have lived ever since.

They had migrated to Sydney from Malta at the respective ages of 20 and 17.

The couple also received official acknowledgements and congratulations from the Queen and the Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull.

After the Mass, their family and friends repaired to the Juniors club in Kingsford for a private party.

Mrs Attard said she had been moved by the occasion.

“It was a lovely night. It was really fantastic,” she said.
