Don’t forget to wear a touch of green this Sunday, St Patrick’s Day.

Auxiliary Bishop of Sydney Terry Brady will lead two Masses in honour of the saint the whole world loves to celebrate.

The first will be at 12pm midday on Sunday 17 March at St Patrick’s, Church Hill, with full choir and the second at 10.30am on Monday 18 March at St Mary’s Cathedral, also with a choir.

In attendance at the Mass on Sunday will be the Consul General of Ireland Owen Feeney, the Irish Ambassador Breandán Ó Caollaí and his wife Ms Carmel Callan and the Irish government’s representative to Australia for St Patrick’s Day Minister Heather Humphries.

The Mass at St Patrick’s will be a double celebration as the following day will be the 175th anniversary since the first Mass was celebrated there in 1884 by Archbishop Polding.

At the conclusion of Mass Bishop Brady will bless a plaque that acknowledges the church’s foundation stone which is believed to be buried under the Grosvenor Street footpath.

He will also bless an original portrait of Matthew Talbot who led the first conference of the St Vincent de Paul Society at St Patrick’s in 1881.

“Feast days are about remembering and we not only need to remember our remarkable Irish heritage, but particularly at this time we need to remember our Catholic tradition and all the riches that it holds,” says St Patrick’s parish priest Fr Michael Whelan SM.

“Everyone is welcome to come and celebrate St Patrick’s Day in the Rocks.”
