STAR Joanna Cole and cast of the musical MacKillop take a well-deserved bow at the conclusion of the premiere of the show last Friday night.
The show, which tells the story of Australia’s first Saint, Mary MacKillop, played to a sell-out audience at Sydney’s Seymour Centre.
Australian soprano Joanna Cole (inset) heads the mixed professional and amateur cast, which also includes veteran actor Donald McDonald (as Alexander MacKillop) and tenor Paul McLeod (Fr Tenison Woods).
Even Sydney’s clergy got involved – Mosman’s Fr James McCarthy plays Bishop Sheil and Fr Bill Milsted of Surry Hills is a standout Pope Pius IX.
Xavier Brouwer wrote the music while Anthony McCarthy both wrote and directed the show.
It finishes in Sydney on October 9 before travelling to Melbourne.
