Aust group at congress

By Richard Healey

A GROUP of 38 Australians led by Bishop Julian Porteous travelled to Paris last month to take part in the second International Congress for the New Evengelisation.

The 10-day congress was a platform for the exchange of ideas on evangelisation in large cities. It began in Vienna last year and will continue in Lisbon, Portugal, in 2005.

The purpose of the congress is to find possibilities for bringing anew the message of Jesus Christ to city dwellers.

The Australian participation was organised by the Sydney Office for Evangelisation and Renewal.

Most of the daily activities began in the great Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris, in the shadow of a huge wooden cross – the tree of life.

Participants listened to talks from a variety of speakers and celebrated Mass together, before heading off to take part in one of more than 300 workshops that were offered over the week.

A huge variety of mission activities were celebrated across the city.
