How we can all help to bridge the rift?
IN a world where a greater rift exists between Christians and Muslims
than ever before, the cohesion between two particular Sydney schools sends
forth a shining message.
Inter-faith dialogue has been taking place between St Joseph’s College,
Hunter’s Hill and Wiley Park Girls’ High School since November 2001.
Since 2001, programs between the Catholic school and the 60 per cent
Muslim public school have become regular events.
As a student at St Joseph’s, or ‘Joeys’, I have seen the relationship
between the two widely different schools develop, being a cultural eye-opener
for all parties concerned.
Last week, a visit to Joeys by several girls from Wiley Park coincided
with our weekly school assembly, at which famous Australian journalist
George Negus was the guest speaker.
