| Cardinal hears the view of young leaders
VOICE OF YOUTH: Some of the more than 100 Year 10 and Year 12 students with Cardinal Pell at the gathering. Sydney’s Archbishop, Cardinal George Pell, recently met student leaders from Sydney Catholic Secondary schools to hear their views on faith, service and social justice. Cardinal Pell was keen to include the students’ views in a pastoral letter he is preparing for the feast of Pentecost. The theme of this year’s letter is “Faith without good works is dead”. More than 100 Years 10 and 12 school leaders attended the evening which began with an inspiring speech from John Finneran, president of the Sydney Archdiocesan Council of the St Vincent de Paul Society. Speaking on the theme of “Faith without good works is dead”, Mr Finneran encouraged the students to get involved in organisations that challenged the inequalities of society, such as the St Vincent de Paul Society. Mr Finneran told the young leaders that as Christians they were called by the Gospel teaching and the example of Christ to help those in need personally and in a variety of ways at a structural level.
