Honours in the Church don’t come much better than being appointed to carry out its mission.

Dr Brigid Vout from Melbourne received such an honour when Cardinal Pell recently appointed her director of the new Life Office of the Sydney archdiocese.

Her role is to communicate and explain the teachings of the Church in areas covered by her mandate.

“I was quite excited when I got the job,” she says of her reaction to the appointment.

“In many ways it was the perfect job since I had experience in the medical field and am able to combine that with my knowledge and experience of bio-ethics.”
