Swans fly high with Vinnies Appeal

By Damir Govorcin

The Sydney Swans have thrown their support behind the St Vincent de Paul Society’s Winter Appeal.

Swans Matthew Nicks, Jarrad McVeigh, Craig Bolton, Amon Buchanan, James Meiklejohn, Tim Schmidt, Josh Thewlis and Scott McGlone ran on to the SCG, bursting through a banner with the message: “Help Vinnies change a life today”.

They then put on an impromptu handball drill using cans instead of a football, much to the delight of students from various Catholic schools, including Christian Brothers High School, Lewisham, and St Aloysius’ College, Milsons Point.

The boundary line was marked with 6000 cans of food to signify that many small gifts can add up to a lot of support for the needy.

Clothing and blankets can be donated at Vinnies centres. To give money phone 13 18 12.
