Maronites celebrate
Australian Maronite Catholics will be among the pilgrims in Rome on Tuesday to celebrate the canonisation of Bl Neemtallah El-Hardini, a member of the Lebanese Maronite Order of Monks.
Bl Neemtallah El-Hardini will be the third saint of the 300-year-old order.
One of his students, Charbel Mahklouf, was canonised in 1977 and a religious sister, Rafqa, in 2001.
This third canonisation is an occasion of great joy to the Maronite Church, which numbers about 250,000 members in Australia alone.
It is an additional honour to the Lebanese Maronite Order of Monks, which arrived in Australia in 1972 and now maintains St Charbel’s Church, monastery and college in Punchbowl, as well as a retreat centre in Appin and a Maronite Mass Centre in Leppington.
