Search for deeper meaning
By Damir Govorcin
More young people are studying theology because they are “looking to find a deeper meaning to their life”, says Francis Voon, a student at the Australian Catholic University, Strathfield.
Francis is part of a dramatic upsurge in the number of students enrolling for theology courses in his university (ACU National) and other members of the Forum of Australian Catholic Institutes.
Undergraduate enrolments at ACU National rose by 33 per cent between 2002 and 2003, postgraduate enrolments by 13 per cent.
“Spirituality is a big topic among young people,” says Francis.
“Theology is fascinating as it has such a broad range of topics, which helps you learn more about your own and other religions.”
