Bishop Doody’s pyx restored to diocese

Bishop
Doody’s gold pyx
An unusual gold pyx which belonged to Bishop Edward Doody (Bishop of
Armidale 1948–1968) has been returned to the Armidale diocese.
The pyx was fashioned from a medallion Bishop Doody had won for academic
achievement in 1918.
He had it made into a pyx in 1940, eight years before he was appointed
Bishop of Armidale.
It has been returned to the diocese by Fr Frank Leonard, a former parish
priest of Wallangarra and now retired in Toowoomba.
The pyx was made from a gold Thallon Medallion, created in 1912 in honour
of James Forsyth Thallon, a Queensland Railways worker who became Commissioner
for Railways in 1902. He remained in the position until his death in 1911.
