Photos show kids in poverty, isolation
Mary MacKillop Museum, North Sydney, is hosting a photographic exhibition which captures the plight of Australian children in situations of poverty, isolation or family breakdown.
It is the UnitingCare Burnside travelling exhibition Images of Children, a collection of 40 black and white photographs hand coloured with photo oils by Jim Rolan.
Museum manager Scott Jessup says the museum is happy to host the exhibition because it reflects the concerns of Bl Mary MacKillop.
“For us the exhibition touches on some of Mary MacKillop’s foundational values including her respect for the dignity of each human being, as well as her love for children,” he says.
“People can view these children for who they are, individuals who deserve the chance to be nurtured within loving, supportive families, and think about some of the issues faced by many children in our society, such as unemployment in families and poverty.”
