The ‘extraordinary’ Fr Tom

Sir William Deane

Fr Tom Dunlea was “an extraordinary human being”, says former Governor-General Sir William Deane.

“Few, if any Australians could realistically claim to have done more to have helped the most vulnerable of Australians.

“Indeed, most of us would be proud to have managed a small fraction of the achievements which mark his life.”

Sir William was speaking at the launch of A Welcome on the Mat, a “memoir” – written by Fr John McSweeney PE – of the life of Fr Tom Dunlea, who set up Australia’s first Boys Town and was instrumental in introducing Alcoholics Anonymous to Australia.
