Stability of marriage ‘is crucial to society’

SEMINAR PANEL: Dr Michael Casey ... “suggesting reasons for hope in the way forward”.

“The stability of marriage is crucial to the health of any society,” says Fr John Flader, director of the Catholic Adult Education Centre.

“Yet never before have we seen so many challenges to Christian marriage in this country.”

Fr John was discussing Marriage and the future, a seminar organised by the centre to consider why Christian marriage is more and more under attack in modern society.

The seminar is to be held at the centre next Thursday, July 22.

Fr John said: “The divorce rate is constantly rising, facilitated by government legislation; more and more couples live in de-facto relationships, with legislation and policies increasingly equating such relationships with marriage; a materialist attitude and the high cost of living tend to reduce the size of families; prevailing community standards, helped by the media and cinema, glamorise marital infidelity
