‘Powerful’ program centres on Lenten themes

The Catholic Adult Education Centre, Sydney, is presenting a “powerful” Lenten program – Come, Follow Me – for small groups who wish to meet regularly to reflect on the Gospel and pray together during Lent.

Its six sessions centre on Lenten themes – the meaning of Lent, the importance of self-denial, the life of prayer, the commandment of love, the joy of forgiveness and the gift of the Eucharist – and each includes a Gospel passage with commentary and a brief meditation, a Taize hymn, prayers of intercession and a responsorial psalm.

Sam Lynch, manager of the Catholic Adult Education Centre, says the commentaries on the Gospel passages include some “very powerful stories, especially the one about forgiveness”.
The Archbishop of Sydney, Cardinal George Pell, has recommended the program as a preparation for Easter, adding that it is “admirably suited to helping those who use it to make Lent a time of authentic spiritual renewal, the first step in our great mission of evangelisation”.
It includes a booklet ($8) and accompanying CD ($12). Both are available from the Catholic Adult Education Centre and Catholic bookshops around the country.
