| Mates give Bulls’ groom Super send-off By Damir Govorcin Talented middle order batsman Chris Gordon may have shared in some impressive partnerships playing for the (St Michael’s, Belfield) Papal Bulls, but he says he is now embarking on the greatest partnership of his life. Chris married Rosina Lynch on January 11 in a ceremony at the Dalton Chapel at St Ignatius’ College, Riverview, where he teaches. For his ‘bucks night’, Chris wanted to do something that his Bulls team-mates and friends would never forget. So he dressed up as Superman. Twenty-four of his friends, including members of the Bulls’ A and C grade teams, gathered to celebrate at the Lowenbrau Keller at the Rocks. Half an hour into the night Chris was whisked away by his best man and emerged 10 minutes later dressed as the man of steel. He soon became the star attraction. “I’ve never been more popular. Everywhere we went people came up to me to thank me for the countless lives I’ve saved,” joked Chris. This season, history has been made at the Papal Bulls with three players – Peter Kuziak and brothers Chris and Anthony Gordon – chalking up their 100th game. All were members of the Papal Bulls team that made its debut in 1996-97. They are now in their eighth season together. Chris says: “It was great timing for all three of us to celebrate 100 games together. “Before we started the club, we use to play backyard cricket with each other for years. “We always dreamed of having our own club and playing together competitively. “No one could have predicted that it would have lasted for eight years.” |
