Having a baby is great motivation for getting things done.
In fact, young couples who are thinking of hiring a life coach or personal fitness trainer should know the self-improvement benefits of expecting a baby.
It may even give you more incentive to pray and examine your life than the best spiritual directors can (though they are still needed, God bless them).
I don’t know how much lifestyle gurus charge, but so far our new regime hasn’t cost an extra cent. It’s still early days, but we’re goal-setting and achieving on a variety of fronts as if there’s no tomorrow.
In the year and a bit since we’ve been married we’ve managed to accumulate a number of tasks we must get around to later.
It’s funny how ‘later’ never gets any closer. So, now, quite a few things – ranging from large and daunting to small and niggling – need our attention while we still have the time to spare.
We’ve started compiling a ‘to do’ list and a schedule. I bet it will take us right up to 40 weeks. Too bad if the baby decides to make an early appearance.
It actually occurred to me on the weekend, when I began this unusual flurry of organisation, that maybe this is what ‘nesting’ is, and that the baby is already on his or her way.
I think it’s great that every January we say we have to get our lives organised, and this time we actually are!
And even though finally getting around to some of these tasks is a little embarrassing, you know how the saying goes (better late than never).
Come to think of it, if this baby is anything like his or her parents, I don’t think there’s much chance that he or she will arrive early.
