PM’s award to Fr Chris Riley

Fr Chris Riley, founder of Youth Off The Streets, has received the Prime Minister’s award for his outstanding contribution in the drug and alcohol field.

He told guests at a presentation dinner in Sydney it was “ encouraging to see that Australians from all walks of life share the same dream and believe that young people deserve the chance to turn their lives around”.

He paid tribute to “everyone working in the drug and alcohol field”, including the staff at Youth Off The Streets “and the many organisations that support us”, such as the Australian National Council on Drugs, the Alcohol Education and Rehabilitation Foundation and the Department of Health and Ageing.

“But it is the young people working towards their recovery and against great obstacles that really provide me with the greatest inspiration – it really is the young people that should be congratulated.”
