After the pregnant pause: ‘Extra special’ - The most beautiful baby, of course

Marilyn, one of our journalists, has just given birth to her first child. We have been following the progress of the fledgling Rodrigues family as Marilyn kept a diary of her pregnancy for The Catholic Weekly.

In last week’s entry, the 20th, the young mother-to-be wrote:

“If the baby continues to hold out, that’s not so bad, because then we will be welcoming him or her in Holy Week, which would be something extra special.” Diary entry 21 follows

I have never been clucky about babies – but it is so true when people say that it will be different when you have your own.

Little Naomi Théresè Rodrigues was born on Holy Tuesday, April 6, at 11.55am after about five hours of active labour. She weighed 2695 grams and is 49cm long She has a dimple on her chin, short fine dark hair and long delicate fingers.

Of course, she is the most beautiful baby we have ever seen.

God has truly given us not only the inestimable gift of a baby daughter but the love to give her as well; we have been given “a full measure, pressed and shaken down and running over”.

Peter and I would like, with our families, to give a heartfelt thanks to all the readers who have followed our progress, offered prayers and sent well wishes and inquired after us.

May God shower you with his blessings also.

- Marilyn Rodrigues
