City Mission conference

Mission Australia is hosting the fifth triennial conference of the City Mission World Association in Sydney from October 17-21.

Around 200 representatives of Christian missions from 20 countries will take part.

Mission Australia has a focus on helping families and children,

young people, homeless people, communities and providing employment services.

The underlying aim of its work is to help individuals and communities strengthen and increase their capacity to help themselves.

Mission Australia operates a network of 300 community and employment services in every State and territory across Australia.

In 2002-03, its 3000 staff helped more than 192,000 people in need.

Its work with families and children aims to help them recognise

and avoid issues which cause problems such as domestic violence, gambling, financial management or other individual family relationship issues.

The Governor, Prof Marie Bashir, will officiate at the opening ceremony of the conference at the Sydney Congress Hall, 140 Elizabeth St, Sydney, from 7-9pm on Friday, October 17. The Jubilation Choir will perform at the opening.

To RSVP for this ceremony, or for information on other CMWA conference events, please contact Trish McDonald Harrison on (02) 9281 9115 or email mcdonaldt@mission.com.au

Mission Australia aims with its Christmas Appeal this year to raise $1.21 million to support its family services. To make a donation please call 1 800 88 88 68 or use the coupon on page 8 of this issue of The Catholic Weekly.
