‘Urgent’ message

The Peace for Life message could not be more urgent, says Fr Terry Bell, national director of Catholic Mission.

“Peace is not just an ideal that we long for,” he says.

“It is something very practical that expresses itself in our relationships with others. We can do something about peace.”

‘Peace for Life’ is the theme for World Mission Day, Sunday, October 19.

Catholic Mission says World Mission Day is a chance for all Catholics to reflect on peace and how necessary it is today in their personal lives, communities, nation and around the world.

The timing could not be more apt. An estimated 300,000 children under the age of 18 are participating in armed conflicts in more than 40 countries. While most child soldiers are in their teens, some are as young as seven.

Catholic Mission’s vision of Peace for Life can be supported in a number of ways.

You can send a message of peace during World Mission Week, October 1924, to those who may be ostracised, marginalised, isolated and living in and with conflict.

You can send one to somebody whom you may be in conflict with - a relative, neighbour or friend - or even to the government or a world leader asking for peace.

You can download a Message for Peace form on Catholic Mission’s website www.catholicmission.org.au

On Wednesday, October 22, Children’s Mission Day, everyone is encouraged to wear a Peace for Life armband as a public display to actively create peace.

Free armbands are available by calling Catholic Mission on 1800 257 296 or can be ordered online from www.catholicmission.org.au
