Como jubilee

The principal of St Joseph’s Primary School, Como, Mary Nixon, chats with the first teacher, Sr Celsus, watched by kindergarten student Patrick Agius.

The school community turned up in large numbers to celebrate the golden jubilee of St Joseph’s Primary School, Como.

The school’s first teacher when it opened in 1953 - Sr Celsus - was a special guest .

She recalled that the school began with 29 students and that the classroom she used during the week doubled as a church on Sundays.

Things have changed dramatically. Today St Joseph’s has 370 students enrolled in modern, well-equipped classrooms and facilities.

The anniversary celebrations included Mass, a musical performance, open classrooms and displays of the current students’ work for the guests, plus a picnic.
