Change to super laws rejected
The House of Representatives has rejected an ALP amendment that would have given same sex couples automatic entitlements to each other’s superannuation benefits.
The amendment, to a bill reducing the superannuation surcharge, had already been passed in the Senate with the support of the ALP, Democrats and Greens.
Anthony Albanese, Labor MP for the Sydney seat of Grayndler, said current superannuation legislation discriminates against same sex couples in many areas.
