Students at St Agnes’ school celebrate World Mission Day

Students at St Agnes’ parish school at Matraville have celebrated Catholic Mission’s themeof Peace for life in words and actions.

Banners highlighted the person of Mary and the mission of the Church and candles symbolised the light of Christ present in an inclusive liturgy that culminated in the formation of the cross of Jesus by the children.

The occasion was highlighted by the launch of the school’s Accepting others policy, written by the Year 6 students.

School principal Steve Darcy says the students take seriously the Pope’s mandate to be missionary animators.

“Our greatest challenge,” he said, “is to bring holiness and mission together in teaching the students to live like Jesus.”

The Accepting others policy “reflects the face of Christ in our school”, he said.
