Answering the phone and packing cards

Rebecca Hall likes her job but ‘would like to go out into the real world’

Rebecca Hall has worked at Stanmore for two years but hopes one day to get out into general employment.

“In the future I would like to get a job somewhere else, maybe answering the phone, somewhere it is more of a challenge,” she says

“But I won’t leave here until I find somewhere else. I have been looking in the papers but it is very hard. I would like to go out into the real world.”

Before taking a job at Stanmore she did volunteer work for the Red Cross.

“A case worker brought me here and showed me the place, and now I like working here,” she says.

“The best jobs are answering the telephone and packing Christmas cards.

“The worst part is loud people talking all the time.

“I spend my money on things like cappuccinos and magazines like Cosmopolitan and Girlfriend.

“I would like to go on holidays to Tasmania.

“My partner’s niece lives there, so I will save up my money and go down in an aeroplane.

“I haven’t saved as much as I should have.

“My brother lives in Shanghai and I hope to see him there one day.

“He used to live in Hong Kong and I went to visit him there.

“It is better working. At home I just used to roam around the streets and look in shops and spend money on coffees.

“I like it here, meeting new customers and the new people who come to work here, and answering the phone.”
