Rosary procession honours Mary Help of Christians

Sydney’s Catholics are invited to join a rosary procession through the city streets to pray for peace on Saturday, May 24, in honour of the feast of Mary Help of Christians, the Church’s patron of Australia.

Sydney has seen a number of demonstrations for peace in recent times, some of them featuring violence, says Keith Gordyn, president of the Servants of Mary Help of Christians.

“As Catholic Christians we pray for peace; a prayerful demonstration of our faith will give witness and encouragement to many people,” he says.

The bishops in Australia dedicated the nation to Mary Help of Christians in 1844.

In 2001 Australia’s bishops re-dedicated the nation to her patronage.

The procession will begin at Lang Park in front of St Patrick’s Church in Grosvenor St at 10.15am and finish at St Mary’s Cathedral at 11.15am.
