CD to help East Timorese kids

A CD of sacred songs sung by young Australian tenor Joseph Duke has been produced to help raise funds for the work of educating East Timorese children through the Mary MacKillop Institute of East Timorese Studies.

Joseph, 17, is the lead singer of St Patrick’s Cathedral, Toowoomba.

The CD, Joseph Sings for East Timor, includes many favourites, including Schubert’s Ave Maria and Franck’s Panis Angelicus.

Josephite Sr Margaret Cusack, the cathedral’s liturgy director, who provided the organ and piano accompaniment for the CD, says the Mary MacKillop Institute, in St Marys, is “doing a tremendous job of providing educational opportunities for East Timorese children in East Timor and in Australia”.

“This is our small effort to help East Timor re-establish itself as a nation,” she says.

Sr Margaret says that parishes which have no music ministers have found the CD most helpful.
