Sneak peek … one of the gowns on show at the Bridal Expo charity preview

By Marilyn Rodrigues

Next week, for $20, you can have a taste of real catwalk glamour and support cancer research at the same time.

The Sydney Harbour Marriott Hotel will host an exclusive preview of Sydney’s annual Bridal Expo on Wednesday, March 26, as a fund-raising night to support St Vincent’s Hospital’s blood diseases and cancer research unit.

The event, named Up Close and Personal, offers a sneak preview of evening gowns by Sydney designer Alex Perry and gorgeous wedding gowns from designers including Lora Ellis, Vita Diaz and Hugs for Brides - gowns that will feature at the bridal expo in April.

The ticket price includes sparkling wine, canapés and other refreshments, plus the chance to win lucky door prizes and bid for a West Australian pink pearl necklace.

The venue, refreshments and prizes have been donated so that all the money raised on the night will go directly to research programs.

The blood diseases and cancer research unit at St Vincent’s focuses on research into cancer and blood diseases to identify abnormal genes and develop therapies.

It operates under the direction of Associate Prof Robyn Ward and Prof David Ma who say they are “thrilled that our unit has been chosen for sponsorship at this very glamorous event”.
