Sex-change marriage challenge
The Catholic Church is among those urging the Federal Government to appeal over a High Court ruling that will allow sex-change couples to marry legally.
The Full Bench of the Family Court of Australia allowed the marriage of 'Kevin', who was born female, and his wife 'Jennifer'. In the process it redefined what a 'man' is - he can now be "a post-operative transsexual" - and also overturned historic tradition by saying a marriage need not be consummated to be valid; nor was procreation the principal purpose of marriage.
