New director of vocations

We congratulate Fr David Catterall (pictured) on his appointment as the new
diocesan director of vocations.
Fr David, who was ordained a priest for our
diocese back in the Jubilee Year 2000, will replace
Fr Sean Cullen, who served as vocations director for many years.
“I look forward to working with the bishop, priests and people of the
diocese in creating a vocations
culture in our local Church and finding creative ways to make vocations to
the priesthood and religious life valued and explored,” the new director
says.
“All of us are called through our Baptism to nurture and support each other
in the living out of our own vocation - whether we are a priest or
religious, married or single, whether we are young or old, all of us are
called to be living examples of our own ways of life.”
Fr David is hoping to build on the work that
has already been done, as well as creating new opportunities to assist the
people of our diocese to discern their vocation.
One of Fr David’s prim-ary roles as vocations director is to accompany those
who are already preparing for priestly ministry in our diocese.
He also sees part of his role as helping others - especially young adults in
our parishes and schools - to see diocesan priesthood and religious life as
a life-giving and credible option when they are discerning the direction God
is calling them to take.
