Child’s Bible passes landmark with 40 millionth copy
Pictured below, children in Bolivia read the book God Speaks to His Children The Child’s Bible - the biggest single project of the international Catholic charity Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) - has passed a landmark with the distribution last month of its 40 millionth copy. Over the past 24 years this little Child’s Bible has been translated into 135 languages and distributed in 115 countries. Most recently it was translated into the Manipuri language for India. The book, a summary of texts from the Old and New Testament with attractive, child-friendly illustrations, has been a runaway success among children worldwide. For them, as for their parents and teachers, the Child’s Bible, also titled God speaks to His Children, has proved a precious means of learning about their faith. On top of this the book represents an important aid in learning to read and write and has thus made a significant contribution to cultural development in many impoverished regions. The demand for the Child’s Bible continues to grow. Hence the immense importance of the generous support this project continues to receive from the thousands of benefactors of the charity. Many new translations are currently in preparation, including Maya for Mexico and the Songje language for the Democratic Republic of Congo. The passing of the 40-million mark coincides with the publication of an extended edition of the Child’s Bible, with an additional chapter on the Wedding Feast in Cana and 31 new illustrations.
