Youth camp call for volunteers

By Damir Govorcin

The St Vincent de Paul Society is seeking volunteers to assist in their Ozanam Youth Camps in Kincumber on the Central Coast during the school holidays.

The camps - which provide respite for underprivileged children and their families - will run from Mondays to Fridays. Each will be attended by about 40 kids.

There are juniors (6-12 years), seniors (8-14 years) and mixed camps.

The co-ordinators set the program of activities for each camp, which includes ball games, bike riding, archery, canoeing, art and craft, beach trips, discos, video nights, bushwalking and campfires.

There are 60 camp leaders, aged from 16 to late 20s, with an average of 15 leaders attending each camp.

All leaders and co-ordinators are volunteers who have attended intensive training weekends, held three times a year at the camp site.

People attending the training weekends include those currently undertaking or intending to do courses in welfare, teaching, youth work and related fields.

If you would like to become a volunteer call Jack or Lorraine on 02 4368 2818.
