IMF, Churches meet
The World Council of Churches has joined the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank in a seminar on development to review the role their institutions have played in shaping the world's economy and improving the lives of peoples in poor countries.
The seminar, held at World Council of Churches headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, gave the council a chance to air its perspective on development. [The Catholic Church is not a member Church, but works co-operatively with the council.]
Wealth creation, social justice and the privatisation of public goods, especially drinking water, were on the agenda for discussion in this first in a series of encounters between the three institutions to discuss matters concerning development.
