‘Walk arm in arm’ call to Vinnies

The commissioning of John O’Neill as State president of the Society of St Vincent de Paul is also a call to fellow members to walk arm in arm with him in cheerful loyalty and mutual support, says his predecessor, Pat O’Flynn (pictured).

As St Paul wrote to the Christians at Phillipi, “be united in your conviction and united in your love, with a common purpose and a common mind”.

Mr O’Flynn was speaking at a Mass at St Vincent’s Church, Ashfield, welcoming Mr O’Neill into his new ministry of office as the NSW/ACT president of Vinnies.

The new president said he hoped the Society would experience a spiritual renewal in the exciting five years ahead “as we focus on our mission to deepen the Catholic faith of our members - to go out into our nation to heighten awareness of Jesus Christ”.

More than 250 Society members, volunteers and staff attended the Mass, celebrated by Bishop Geoffrey Robinson.
