A place ‘where heaven meets earth’

Fr Morgan Batt is the first priest to celebrate Mass on Mt Everest, “a place where heaven meets earth”.

He has also celebrated Mass on Mt Kosciusko and Mt Kilimanjaro as part of his dream of celebrating Mass on the highest mountain on every continent.

Now he’s gearing up for a return trip to Nepal in December at the head of a party of 18-39-year-old Catholic climbing enthusiasts on the aptly named Himalayan Faith Trek.

Then he’s off to complete the “exciting and challenging” fourth stage of his dream, climbing and celebrating Mass in January on South America’s highest mountain, Aconcagua.

The 6966 metre (22,840ft) mountain sits astride the border of Chile and Argentina.
