Weekly crusade wins news prize

The Catholic Weekly, which last year won Australia’s premier Christian newspaper trophy, the Gutenberg Award, has added to its list of religious press awards.

Judges for the Australasian Catholic Press Association have chosen the Weekly as the winner in three categories.

Our successful campaign to prevent the opening of a brothel in Lewisham - a series written by Chris indsay - was named as Best News Story.

It was commended for its timelessness and “the initiative taken in sourcing the work rather than just turning up at a press conference”.

The Catholic Weekly won Best Newspaper Layout and Design for designer Peter Davis and acting editor John Pierce.

And John Pierce’s Will Papal Bulls continue on their winful, wicket way? and Barb the builder, can she fix it? Barb the builder, yes, she can! won the Best Headline award. His headline Oh, brittle town of ethlehem was honoured in the Australasian Religious Press Association awards.
