Carnivale Christi – festival returns
After a successful inaugural year, Carnivale Christi returns for 2002 with a program taking in Christian theatre, performance, song, poetry and art.
“This year’s festival has a strong emphasis on the old and the contemporary,” said Festival Director Anthony McCarthy.
Among the events is the premiere of a play by University of Sydney Chaplaincy worker Lucy O’Connell, The Sword of Sorrow, an Arthurian tale focusing on Merlin, Morgan la Faye and Morgause, but taking in broader Christian themes.
Other highlights include actor Donald MacDonald presenting his monologue, The Gospel of St John, Christian music and poetry through the ages, featuring choirs from various Eastern Rite churches, and an exhibition of religious art and iconography.
The festival opens at the Seymour Theatre Centre on Friday, April 5. For more information, visit www.carnivalechristi.com.
