Catholic students, schools among best in HSC results

Catholic students were well represented in 2001’s top HSC results, with 10 receiving the top mark in an individual subject and 26 schools coming in the top 150.

Clare Shiner, of Brigidine College, Randwick, was one of the top performing Catholic students, achieving the top mark in Physics and an overall top band (90 per cent or higher) ranking.

Santa Sabina College, Strathfield, had two top-of-course scoring HSC students last year: Catherine Gascoigne, who topped two English subjects, Advanced and Extension 2, and Laura Bergamin, who headed French Beginners.

Other top place scorers included Anna Lau, Monte Sant Angelo (Music 1); Matthew Deery, St Joseph’s, Hunters Hill (Engineering Studies); Holly Creenaune, St Mary Star of The Sea, Hurstville (Music Extension); Lisa Ronan, St Patrick’s Marist College, Dundas (Senior Science); Chris Petsalis, St Gregory’s College, Lismore (Studies of Religion II); John Paul Godoy Ganga, All Saints, Casula (Spanish Extension); and Megan Gray, All Saints, St Mary’s (Music l).

Twenty-three Catholic students achieved more than 90 per cent in 10 units.

Loreto Normanhurst was the highest ranked Catholic school, followed by Loreto Kirribilli and Kincoppal-Rose Bay.
