Churchill Fellowship to Weekly columnist
Sydney Archdiocesan Secretary Fr Brian Lucas (pictured) has been selected as a Churchill Fellowship winner for 2002. Fr Lucas, who answers questions from readers in his weekly Insights column in The Catholic Weekly has been accepted to participate in an 11-week course – Pastoral Communication: Theology and Practice – at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. During his four months’ extended leave, he will also visit the Bishops’ Conference in London and undertake research on methods of training local church personnel in using media, especially local suburban newspapers and community radio. Fr Lucas told The Catholic Weekly he was grateful to the former Archbishop of Sydney, Cardinal Clancy, who approved a period of extended leave and to the present Archbishop, Dr Pell, who encouraged the project. The Churchill Trust is an Australian Trust established in 1965, the year of Sir Winston Churchill’s death. Its principal object is to perpetuate and honour the memory of the former British leader through the Churchill Fellowships, which provide financial support to allow Australians from all walks of life to undertake a period of overseas study or an investigative project that cannot be readily undertaken in Australia. |
