Old boys go back to Marist school after 50 years

Nostalgia "isn't what it used to be, but it's still alive and well", says Fr Jim O'Meara, parish priest of St Finbar's, Sans Souci.

Fr Jim organised a class reunion on behalf of his younger brother, Frank, an old boy of Marist Brothers, Kogarah, who was visiting from his home in France.

It marked the 50-year anniversary of the Leaving Certificate class of 1952 and brought together (pictured) men who had not seen each other since they left school.

Twenty-four men who were classmates in 1945-1952 went to the reunion dinner at the Rocks and visited their old school the next day.

Fr Jim was so inspired by that success that he has begun organising his own class reunion (Year 4 to Leaving, 1941-48), which he hopes to hold in March next year.
