Casting a NET to reach young adults, older kids

By Marilyn Rodrigues

How do you get older kids and young adults to get involved in parish life - much less come to Mass at all?

One way is to have some hip, energetic young people befriend them, and engage them in drama, storytelling and music with the message that it is OK - even cool - to have faith in Jesus.

That’s what National Evangelisation Team Minist-ries (NET) is all about.

The Sydney Archdiocese will have its own NET team of young adults working in various parishes and schools with the aim of boosting youth ministry from next year.

They will be co-ordinated by Catholic Youth Services.

Young adults who have given up a year of their lives to Catholic youth ministry will undergo a five-week intensive training course in Brisbane before beginning their term in Sydney.

They will work with teachers, parish priests and parish youth leaders to encourage the faith of young people and assist parishes.

Catholic Youth Services is hosting a party for 16-35s on Friday, December 6, to welcome back Archbishop George Pell. It will be held at 7.30-11pm at St Dominic’s parish hall, The Crescent, Homebush West (opposite Flemington railway station).

Entry is free but people are asked to bring soft drink (no alcohol) or party food.

You can call Catholic Youth services on 9763 1416.
