Real meaning of Christmas

Christmas isn’t just about Christmas shopping or giving and receiving presents - although sometimes it can feel like it.

To give people a feeling for the real meaning of Christmas - the birth of Jesus - the Bishop of Broken Bay, Bishop David Walker, has been getting Advent off to a good religious and ecumenical start for the past few years with a special celebration at Corpus Christi Cathedral, St Ives.

It has become something of a tradition.

This year the bishop feels the event is even more important than usual because of the tragic terrorist bombing in Bali and other terrible events around the world.

The service has been designed by a committee representing several Christian Churches.

Because of the ongoing tensions around the world, the theme chosen for this year’s celebration is Celebrating the Love of God in the World.

The service takes place at thecathedral at 8pm on Wednesday, December 4.

And, for those with friends and relatives on the Central Coast, a second service will be held at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, the Entrance, at 8pm on Thursday, December 5.

Supper will be served after both services. All are welcome.
