Sydney festivals follow in wake of World Youth Day Catholic Youth Services, Sydney, has planned two special events to follow in the slipstream of World Youth Day. They are Salt & Light, a music and prayer festival for young Catholics, and Youth 2000, a weekend of prayer, talks, discussion groups, music and faith sharing. Salt & Light – to be held at St Mary’s Cathedral College Hall on at 7.30pm-midnight on Saturday, September 7 – is described as a chance for 13 to 35-year-olds to celebrate their faith with other young Catholics. Mike Willesee will show part of his new documentary, The Eucharist, and Sydney’s Encounter Christian Band, which played in Toronto during the World Youth Day festivities, will perform as well. Salt & Light, say the organisers, promises personal testimonies, music, drama and prayer Youth 2000 – to be held at St Mary’s Cathedral College Hall on the weekend of October 4-6 – will challenge young Catholics to “go deeper”, says David Leach of Catholic Youth Services. “Come with an open heart and you will leave this festival with a deep personal love for Jesus,” he says. “Return to your parish or group renewed with spiritual energy and love for Christ and His Church.” Salt & Light tickets cost $5.
