Fun-filled radio CD guide for young drivers By Marilyn Kerjean First the crew made a skin cancer awareness radio commercial, then a fun, informative CD guide to share living; now Radio Out There has launched a CD especially for ‘drive time’. Drive Time - a young person’s guide to motoring highlights the joys and the responsibilities of getting and using a driving licence. Radio Out There, a special work of the St Vincent de Paul Society, was established in 1992 as part of the Rendu Youth Resource Centre in Petersham. It allows Work-for-the-Dole participants and young volunteers to produce a weekly one-hour radio program for youth, with help from program director Danielle Archer and audio engineer Peter Stockler. It is broadcast live on radio station 2RDJ, based in Burwood. Radio Out There gives advice on social security matters, legal issues, job search and health, packaged with the latest music, with an emphasis on local and alternate music, as well as interviews with bands and artists. Drive Time is an informative and funny radio play about three young adults getting their licences, buying a car and going on a road trip. The CD covers licensing, choosing a car, driver and passenger safety, driver fatigue, what to do in case of an accident, drink-driving and speeding. Targeted at 16-25 year olds, the CD is free for use in libraries, high schools, youth centres and community radio.
