Janelle’s bake takes the cake

Janelle Scott with some other Easter Show winning entries

It was a last minute effort but HSC student Janelle Scott’s orange cake picked up a third prize ribbon at this year’s Royal Sydney Easter Show.

The busy St Declan’s, Penshurst, parishioner didn’t have much time available – because of studies – but decided to bake an orange cake at the last minute “just to see how it turned out”.

It turned out that the cake won Janelle (pictured) her 14th Easter Show ribbon.

She began cooking very early, under the ex

pert tutelage of her mum, Mary – a woman of many skills but celebrated by Catholic Weekly staff for her deft cake baking prowess.

Janelle’s first competition entry was at the age of nine, when she came third for her cupcakes.

She has since won prizes for her chocolate cakes, orange cakes and lamingtons.

Janelle is also a deft hand in the craft section entering needlework and quilling and hopes completion of the HSC year will find her with more time to prepare entries for next year’s show.
