Bishop Satterthwaite retires after 30 years

Bishop John Satterthwaite is retiring after 30 years as Bishop of Lismore,

Coadjutor Bishop Geoffrey Hylton Jarrett, who was ordained bishop in February, will be the fifth Bishop of Lismore when Bishop Satterthwaite’s tenure ends on December 1.

The outgoing bishop announced his decision in a statement to priests in the diocese after Pope John Paul II approved his retirement. December 12 has been tentatively set for a Mass in St Carthage’s Cathedral, Lismore, to celebrate his bishopric.
